Quick answer
Taking leave on the working days between a public holiday and a weekend gives you a longer break for fewer leave days. Choose your state and the planner lists the best stretches for the next 12 months, showing the leave days needed and the total days off in a row.
Which days of leave give the longest break?
Pick your state to see the best stretches.
Each result shows the first and last day off, the days of leave you take, and the total days away. The planner counts weekends and public holidays in your state as days off.
How does it work?
Look at Easter 2027. Good Friday is Fri 26 Mar and Easter Monday is Mon 29 Mar. If you take Tue 30 Mar to Fri 2 Apr, which is 4 days of leave, you are off from Fri 26 Mar to Sun 4 Apr. That is 10 days in a row for 4 days of leave. Easter dates are the same for every state, but other public holidays differ.
Can I plan around school holidays too?
Yes. Open your state's school holidays page to see term breaks, then use the planner to find extra days around them.
Frequently asked questions
Does the planner count public holidays that apply in only part of a state?
No. It uses the holidays that apply across the whole state or territory.
Do the results change every year?
Yes. They follow the dates on this site, which are updated each year.
What if my employer closes on different days?
Your workplace may have different rules. Check your own agreement or award for how public holidays and leave apply to you.
